24 YEARS OF ENTERTAINING EDUCATIONAL LECTURES BRIDFAS of Hamburg was founded in 1987 to stimulate understanding, enjoyment and care of the Arts, and to promote a greater awareness of our international cultural heritage. It is a member society of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies NADFAS in the UK from which it derives a great deal of advisory support. NADFAS is now 40 years old and there are now over 300 local societies in the UK, nine societies in Mainland Europe and over 20 in Australia. In all they represent a world membership of more than 80,000.
The BRIDFAS season starts in September and finishes in June during which there are at least seven illustrated lectures on a wide range of subjects such as art, architecture, music, furniture, silver, china and ceramics etc. Special functions are an annual outing in May to places of historical interest in the vicinity of Hamburg, week-end Study Days and visits to local art galleries and museums. In addition exchange visits with other NADFAS societies are sometimes organised.
BRIDFAS of Hamburg has links with several local museums and one of the aims of the society is to make donations of art objects for addition to their collection, whenever this is financially possible.
A house magazine, NADFAS NEWS, is distributed four times a year, as well as our local newsletter, which also appears twice a year.
The lectures are given by carefully chosen experts who are mainly from the UK; all lectures are in English and are held at the DESY Auditorium, Notkestraße 85, 22607 Hamburg. The lectures start at 20:00 and doors open at 19:15. There is a bar where you can purchase a glass of wine or soft drinks so why not come along early and meet other members?
We extend a warm welcome to all who are interested in joining. Annual Membership fee is 60 Euro for single members and 110 Euro for couples.
Guests are welcome to attend individual lectures at 10 Euro (students 3 Euro) per lecture.
Patron of the Society is the Honorary British Consul in Hamburg.
